Congregation Emanu-El’s egalitarian education program for children covers all ages up to Bnei Mitzvah.
Toddler Program
Our toddler program is free of charge and runs from 10:15 am to 11:15 am on Sunday mornings during Hebrew School. Toddler Time!, designed for parent and tot Hebrew fun, is geared for children aged 0 to 4 and incorporates Hebrew songs and letters in an engaging way.
Hebrew School
Hebrew School runs on Sunday mornings (10 am to 1pm) and Tuesdays after school (3:30 pm to 5:30 pm). Hebrew School is for children in preschool to Grade 5. The B’nei Mitzvah program is for students in Grade 6 and 7. Students in Grade 7 receive tutoring to prepare for their B’nei Mitzvah.
Hebrew School (Sundays)
Our Sunday Hebrew School is designed to be a hybrid indoor/outdoor program. Due to the current pandemic, Sunday Hebrew School is being held outside every week. Our outdoor programming connects Hebrew and Jewish experiences to the local and natural world. Special guest programming and outdoor Tikkun Olam (Putting the World to Right) projects are scheduled throughout the year.
A typical Hebrew School Sunday starts with a community Havdallah, where family members may choose to join before they drop off their child(ren). Students will then have time with their age-group classes as well as the whole Hebrew School Group. Biblical stories with a modern twist, Hebrew Songs and games as well as mitzvot are some of the fun things we experience together at Hebrew School. During the year there are opportunities for families to connect, pandemic-permitting, through various community activities.
Hebrew School (Tuesdays)
Tuesday Hebrew School—currently held indoors at the Synagogue—focuses on Hebrew enrichment and Jewish studies. Both indoor and outdoor sessions will celebrate modern Jewish education with an emphasis on Jewish cultural experiences, community building and Hebrew.
Fees (2021–22)
- Gan (4 & 5 yr olds): $460
- Aleph - Hey (Gr. 1 - 5): $825
- Vav (Gr. 6): $900
- B'nei Mitzvah (Gr. 7): $925
There is a 10% discount for each additional child.
